Client Story: In Their Own Words

“I started going to ExercisAbilties in December 2019 for physical therapy to help with my chronic pain and my diagnoses of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). Rio and I first worked on understanding my chronic pain and how my body responds to different movements and then started working on general joint strengthening.
Once my joints had become stable enough, I started exercising with the trainers at Exercabilities to continue my strengthening. Since I started, my overall endurance has grown, and my ability to realign my joints all by myself instead of needing someone to do it for me.
I started an Etsy store called TheSickPersonShop, a store that’s based around empowering and bringing light to different chronic illnesses and disabilities, about half a year after I started going to Exercisabilities. I named my shop TheSickPersonShop as a way to take ownership of the identity that I fell under when in school, being seen as the “sick” kid, the “sick” person”. My goal is to make people of all backgrounds feel represented in ways that they often aren’t! You can find my shop at etsy.com/shop/TheSickPersonShop!”
