What made you decide to come to ExercisAbilities?
“I was having ongoing pain. I spoke with a person that was happy with ExercisAbilities when she had a problem. She told me that they were a great group of Physical Therapists. (Word of mouth is great advertising!) It was easy to trust a friends recommendation.”
How did you benefit from services at EA?
“I had an ongoing pain in my groin area. I went to my family doctor. She kind of shrugged it off since it was not terrible pain. I was having trouble with my knee and needed to have knee replacement surgery. So, it was a wait and watch. I went to the surgon for my pre-surgery check up. I explained to him that I was having pain in my groin area. I just wanted him to know before surgery since I wondered if It would be something that should be checked on before surgery. He did not seem concerned. So, we set up the surgery date.
The surgery day came and the surgery was performed. I went to the hospital early that morning and I was back home early in the evening. Everything went good. I was given a shot for pain after surgery. I was also giving tramadol, oxycodone, and acetaminophen for pain at home. At first, I felt pretty good. But, when the shot wore off, the other meds did not help with my groin pain that was now a 9 or 10+. I was unable to do most of the daily activities of living without help. Walking alone was out of the question and it was very hard even with help because of the pain in my groin. The only way to relieve the pain was to sit bending over at 45 degrees so I was unable to sleep in a bed. I did not take the pain pills because they did not help with the pain at all. I discontinued the medication. There wasn’t any change in the amount of pain with or without the pills. The pain in my groin area was much much worse after surgery. I asked my family doctor and also my surgeon for some for pain relief. They both were informed that I could not take too strong of drugs and that they did not help me at all. I was in terrible pain. Both doctors said that they did not want to give me anything else since I might become addicted but offered nothing else. Ugh! I needed help!
For a long period of time I slept about 3 hours each night. The pain was horrible. After a while, it was really, really hard to even think. My husband was the main caretaker, and after being up with me so many nights, my daughter noticed that 24 hour caretaking was taking a tole on her father. She decided to move in with us and take turns helping me during the night. I was needing so much help!
The weeks went by lacking sleep for my whole family. One night I fell asleep in the only position that I would not feel pain. I was sitting bent over in a 45 degree angle in a chair. I was so exhausted that I feel out of the chair and ended up with a rug burn on my face! After a time, I was supposed to go to physical therapy for my knee, but I was so depleted of energy that I could not. I made an appointment at EA with a friends recommendation. I found someone there who finally listened to me about the pain in the groin! Dr Rio said, “I think I know what is wrong.” She completed an examination and, sure enough, she did figure it out! It seemed magical. After the treatment, almost instantly, the pain disappeared and I was able to move about myself. I was delighted! No pain! And no xrays, no MRI, no drugs! The best part was that the pain stayed away! I had been in such pain for such a long period of time, and unable to sleep, that I considered Rio the person who saved my life!”
What improvements would you suggest in the system?
“I think that therapists should be legally able to write prescriptions. It doesn’t make any sense to me that the person that treats you and knows the situation should no be able to prescribe meds for their patients when they need it.”
Would you recommend EA to others?

Phyllis working on improving her movement quality during exercise.
“Of course I would! They are the BEST!”
What did you like best about EA?
“I loved the whole staff at EA. They were courteous, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They were flexible when I needed to change my appointment. They really listened when I told them about my problems. When I arrived for my first appointment, I heard talking and laughing coming from the therapy area. I wondered what was happening. If was just them doing their job! If you come to EA you will notice the same thing! But do not let that fool you into thinking that there was all play and no work getting done! What I found was therapists that were enthusiastic and engaged with their patients. They were cheerleaders. They made therapy enjoyable and fun. They are a friendly, professional service.”
How did I benefit from the PT Service?
“Getting rid of the pain that I had for months was a huge relief for me and my family! I was finally pain free and able to sleep all nigh tin bed. Wat a treat!! Thank you EXERCISABILITIES! Especially Dr Rio!”
