Neuro Rehab & Recovery Physical Therapy FAQ

How much does neurological rehab cost, and will my insurance cover it?

We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, and we’ll help you understand your coverage before you begin. For those paying out of pocket, weekly costs typically range from $75 to $375, depending on how often you come. We also accept HSA/FSA and offer income-based discounts through our nonprofit’s All-Access Pathway so you can continue care, even after insurance ends.

What is neurological rehabilitation, and how can it help me?

Neurological rehabilitation is a specialized therapy designed to address impairments caused by nervous system injuries or diseases. It focuses on improving mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and cognitive functions. Through personalized treatment plans, we aim to enhance your independence and quality of life.

How soon should I start rehabilitation after my diagnosis?

Starting neuro rehabilitation as early as possible is beneficial. For stroke patients, therapy often begins within 24 to 48 hours post-event, depending on medical stability. Early intervention can lead to better outcomes¹ by capitalizing on the brain's power to heal itself.

What types of therapies are involved in neurological rehabilitation?

A comprehensive neuro rehab program at EA may include a combination of therapies designed to retrain the nervous system, restore function, and improve quality of life:

  • Physical therapy: Focused on improving mobility, balance, and strength through movement retraining and hands-on techniques. Our neuro PTs address both the body and the nervous system to promote faster, deeper recovery.
  • Occupational therapy: Helps you regain independence with daily activities like dressing, cooking, and using your hands effectively. We tailor strategies and exercises to fit your goals and support greater confidence at home or in the community.
  • Adaptive fitness training: Customized exercise programs designed for individuals with neurological or mobility challenges. These sessions build strength, endurance, and function in a safe, supportive environment.
  • Neubie NeuFit therapy: Uses advanced direct current stimulation to activate weak or disconnected muscles and re-establish brain-body communication. It’s especially effective for restoring movement and accelerating recovery from neurological conditions.
  • Wellness coaching: Offers guidance on nutrition, sleep, stress management, and healthy habits that support your overall recovery. We help you create sustainable routines that improve energy, mood, and long-term wellbeing.
Will I regain full function, and how long will recovery take?

Recovery varies based on the severity of your condition, individual health factors, and how soon you start neuro rehab. Some people experience significant improvements, while others may have lasting impairments. Recovery can continue for months or even years, with the most rapid gains typically occurring in the first few months.

Is neurological rehabilitation effective for progressive conditions like Parkinson’s disease or MS?

Yes. While these conditions are progressive, rehabilitation can help slow progression, reduce symptoms, maintain function, and improve quality of life. Regular therapy can slow functional decline and empower to remain active and independent longer.

What role does neuroplasticity play in my recovery?

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. Neurological rehab helps the brain compensate for injury or disease, helping you relearn lost functions.

How do I know if neuro rehabilitation is working for me?

At the beginning of your program, we’ll do a baseline physical assessment of functional abilities, strength, balance, and other relevant metrics. Progress is monitored through regular re-assessments, which are compared to your prior checks.
Improvements in easy of daily activities, increased independence, and enhanced quality of life are indicators of effective neuro rehab.

Can I continue rehabilitation after my insurance coverage ends?

Yes. At EA, many clients choose to continue their care beyond insurance. We offer affordable cash-based options and specialized wellness programs so you can keep progressing toward your goals. Our team will work with you to design a plan that fits your needs and budget, whether that's continuing neuro rehab, transitioning into therapeutic personal training, or joining one of our health programs. You don’t have to stop your recovery just because your insurance does.

What should I expect during my first neuro rehab session?

You’ll visit us at the Neuro Gym on North Broadway in Rochester, MN. The first session involves a comprehensive evaluation of your relevant medical history, current functional status, and personal goals. Based on this assessment, the neuro rehab team will develop a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and stated goals.
